Imperialism: Hands Off Venezuela! \u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

Trump picks up where Bush and Obama left off training the guns of imperialism on the populist leaders of Chavism in Venezuela. While giving no political support to the Maduro popular front government and its fake \u201c21st Century Socialism,\u201d which is just a cover maintaining capitalism in the face of social misery and unrest, The Communist Workers Group opposes US intervention, sanctions, covert and overt plots and sabotage against the Venezuelan state and masses. \u00a0In the USA we advocate a labor led anti-war movement that breaks the confines of Taft-Hartley and initiates solidarity strike actions to stop the movement of war materials and the troops Trump is threatening to deploy. We call on workers to build a revolutionary workers international party that coordinates the international struggle against imperialism and for world socialism.<\/p>\n

For an independent and revolutionary exit in Venezuela<\/strong><\/p>\n

A Venezuela hoje \u00e9 com certeza um dos pa\u00edses mais atingido pela atual crise global do capitalismo. Os trabalhadores e o povo venezuelano est\u00e3o caindo na mis\u00e9ria rapidamente. A infla\u00e7\u00e3o passa dos 900%, n\u00e3o h\u00e1 acesso a comida e outras condi\u00e7\u00f5es b\u00e1sicas de vida como assist\u00eancia a sa\u00fade. Diante da maior crise capitalista da hist\u00f3ria, o Socialismo do s\u00e9culo XXI se mostra uma verdadeira farsa que de socialismo n\u00e3o tem nada.<\/em><\/p>\n

Venezuela today is certainly one of the countries most affected by the current global crisis of capitalism. The workers and the Venezuelan people are falling into misery quickly. Inflation exceeds 900%, there is no access to food and other basic living conditions such as health care. Faced with the greatest capitalist crisis in history, \u201ctwenty-first century socialism\u201d\u00a0is shown to be a true farce that has nothing to do with socialism.<\/p>\n

O chavismo subiu ao poder em 1999, e apesar da ret\u00f3rica de \u201csocialismo\u201d, se apoiou na economia capitalista de venda de commodities, notadamente o petr\u00f3leo, que durante o boom econ\u00f4mico no mercado internacional alcan\u00e7ou pre\u00e7os alt\u00edssimos. A renda do petr\u00f3leo possibilitou ao chavismo uma gama de pol\u00edticas compensat\u00f3rias de assist\u00eancia ao povo mais pobre. Do mesmo boom de venda de commodities, especialmente para a China, se beneficiaram governos populistas e frente populares na Am\u00e9rica Latina como Lula no Brasil e os Kirchners na Argentina. O estouro da crise global do capitalismo em 2008 levou ao fim a pol\u00edtica de medidas compensat\u00f3rias e a grandes crises desses governos.<\/em><\/p>\n

Chavismo came to power in 1999, and despite the rhetoric of “socialism”, relied on the capitalist economy of selling commodities, notably oil, which reached high prices during the economic boom in the international market. The oil income enabled Chavismo to subsidize a range of compensatory policies to assist the poorest people. From the same boom in commodity sales, especially to China, populist and grassroots governments in Latin America such as Lula in Brazil and the Kirchners in Argentina have benefited. The resurgence of the global crisis of capitalism in 2008 brought to an end the policy of compensatory measures and brought on major crises of these governments.<\/p>\n

O governo chavista tem apoio de grande parte da esquerda. A esquerda reformista sempre apoiou o \u201csocialismo do s\u00e9culo XXI\u201d como uma via pac\u00edfica, e por dentro do regime democr\u00e1tico burgu\u00eas, para o socialismo. Um dos principais motivos de defesa do chavismo \u00e9 que esse seria \u201cantiimperialista\u201d. Apesar de nunca ter deixado de vender petr\u00f3leo para o imperialismo americano, pagar a d\u00edvida externa e deixar as multinacionais operarem no pa\u00eds, o governo venezuelano desafia os EUA e sofreu inclusive uma tentativa de golpe em 2002. Mas longe de ser \u201cantiimperialista\u201d, apesar do chavismo cortar la\u00e7os com o imperialismo americano, estreita cada vez mais suas rela\u00e7\u00f5es com os imperialismos chin\u00eas e russo. <\/em>(1)<\/em><\/p>\n

The Chavez government has wide support from the left. The reformist left always supported “21st century socialism\u201d as a peaceful road to socialism within the bourgeois democratic regime. One of the main excuses for Chavism’s defenders is that it would be “anti-imperialist.” Although it has never stopped selling oil to US imperialism, paying off foreign debt and letting multinationals operate in the country, the Venezuelan government defies the US and even suffered a coup attempt in 2002. But far from being “anti-imperialist,” despite Chavismo cutting some ties with American imperialism, it increasingly tightens its relations with Chinese and Russian imperialisms. (1)<\/p>\n

Diante do agravamento da crise econ\u00f4mica, pol\u00edtica e social na Venezuela, correntes que at\u00e9 ent\u00e3o se colocavam na oposi\u00e7\u00e3o de esquerda ao chavismo, hoje defendem o governo como o \u201cmal menor\u201d em rela\u00e7\u00e3o a oposi\u00e7\u00e3o de direita ligada a MUD( Mesa de Unidade Nacional), como o MAIS (Movimento por uma Alternativa independente e Socialista) \u00a0defende em seu artigo (2). \u00a0No Brasil, apesar de Lula e o PT n\u00e3o manterem uma ret\u00f3rica \u201cantimperialista\u201d como a de Chaves e Maduro, grande parte da esquerda defende o governos do PT como \u201cmenos ligado ao imperialismo\u201d, v\u00e1rias organiza\u00e7\u00f5es e militantes que se diziam oposi\u00e7\u00e3o ao governo de Frente Popular, como o PSOL, diante da crise e do crescimento da direita, n\u00e3o possuem pol\u00edtica independente e agem como linha auxiliar do PT. O MAIS, ap\u00f3s romper com o PSTU, tamb\u00e9m fez essa guinada no Brasil, mais uma organiza\u00e7\u00e3o que se dizia oposi\u00e7\u00e3o de esquerda ao PT, agora defendendo a frente popular contra o \u201cgolpe\u201d da direita. Como dissemos durante a crise do governo Dilma (3), o governo do PT e a Frente Popular n\u00e3o \u00e9 o \u201cmal menor\u201d. A FP amarra os trabalhadores a burguesia, desmobiliz<\/em>a e desmoraliza a classe trabalhadora e abre caminho para direita e o fascismo.<\/p>\n

Faced with the aggravation of the economic, political and social crisis in Venezuela, currents that previously were\u00a0in the opposition to \u00a0the left of Chavismo today defend the government as the “lesser evil” in relation to the right opposition linked to MUD (Table of National Unity ), like the MAIS (Movement for an Independent and Socialist Alternative) argues in their article (2). In Brazil, although Lula and the PT do not maintain an “anti-imperialist” rhetoric such as that of Chavez and Maduro, much of the left defends PT governments as “less connected to imperialism”; several organizations and militants who said they opposed the \u00a0Popular Front government, like the PSOL, before the crisis and the growth of the right, do not have an \u00a0independent policy and act as an auxiliary ballot line of the PT. MAIS, after breaking with the PSTU, also made this turn in Brazil, another organization that called itself left opposition to the PT, is now defending the popular front against the “coup” of the right. As we said during the crisis of the Dilma government (3), the PT government and the Popular Front are not the “lesser evil.” The Popular Front ties the workers to the bourgeoisie, demobilizes and demoralizes the working class and opens the way to the right and fascism.<\/p>\n

Venezuela independente?<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

Independent Venezuela?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Um dos argumentos do MAIS\/Val\u00e9rio para defender o governo Maduro, o que gerou uma polemica com a LIT\/PSTU, \u00e9 de que o chavismo seria \u201crelativamente independente\u201d do imperialismo. Citando Moreno e as Teses do II Congresso da LIT, o MAIS responde ao PSTU afirmando que \u201cExistem pa\u00edses, politicamente, independentes, como evidenciado pelo fato de que o imperialismo os ataca. Se eles fossem dependentes os EUA n\u00e3o iniciariam, obviamente, campanhas de agress\u00e3o, como as sofridas pela L\u00edbia, Angola, Nicar\u00e1gua, etc.\u201d <\/em>(4).<\/em><\/p>\n

One of the arguments of MAIS \/ Val\u00e9rio to defend the Maduro government, which generated a polemic with the LIT \/ PSTU, is that Chavismo would be “relatively independent” from imperialism. Quoting Nahuel Moreno and the Theses of the Second Congress of the LIT, MAIS responds to the PSTU stating that “There are countries, politically, independent, as evidenced by the fact that imperialism attacks them. If they were dependent, the US would not obviously initiate aggression campaigns, such as those suffered by Libya, Angola, Nicaragua, etc. ” (4).<\/p>\n

Em sua resposta o PSTU concorda com a categoria de \u201cpaises independentes\u201d,por\u00e9m, estes j\u00e1 n\u00e3o existiriam mais e seriam agora semi-colonias: \u201cNesses artigos, Valerio faz uma observa\u00e7\u00e3o metodol\u00f3gica: a defini\u00e7\u00e3o de \u201cpa\u00eds independente\u201d (utilizada por Nahuel Moreno na d\u00e9cada de 1980) \u00e9 uma \u201ccategoria em constru\u00e7\u00e3o\u201d, isto \u00e9, em debate e em processo de elabora\u00e7\u00e3o. Concordamos com ele.\u201dpor\u00e9m, faz uma ressalva \u201cMas queremos, sim, referir-nos a uma comprova\u00e7\u00e3o emp\u00edrica: essa categoria de \u201cpa\u00edses independentes\u201d est\u00e1 em extin\u00e7\u00e3o (se \u00e9 que j\u00e1 n\u00e3o se extinguiu).\u201d\u2026 \u201cPor isso, aqueles \u201cpa\u00edses independentes\u201d que Moreno havia definido (Arg\u00e9lia, L\u00edbia, Angola etc.) hoje j\u00e1 s\u00e3o semicol\u00f4nias. Os ex-Estados oper\u00e1rios j\u00e1 entram nessa categoria ou est\u00e3o em vias de s\u00ea-lo (como Cuba e China).\u201d(5).<\/em><\/p>\n

In their reply, the PSTU agrees with the category of “independent countries”, however, these would no longer exist and would now be semi-colonies: “In these articles, Valerio makes a methodological observation: the definition of “independent country”(used by Nahuel Moreno in the 1980s) is a “category under construction”, that is, in debate and in the process of elaboration. “But we do want to refer to an empirical evidence: this category of” independent countries “is in extinction (if not extinguished).” … “Therefore, those “independent countries” that Moreno had defined (Algeria, Libya, Angola, etc.) today are already semi-colonies. The former workers’ states already fall into this category or are in the process of becoming so (like Cuba and China).” (5).<\/p>\n

A LIT\/PSTU, ao contr\u00e1rio do MAIS, diz que \u00e9 necess\u00e1rio lutar contra Maduro, por\u00e9m, citando a declara\u00e7\u00e3o de sua se\u00e7\u00e3o na Venezuela, mostra que a sa\u00edda \u00e9 por dentro do regime democr\u00e1tico burgu\u00eas e \u201celeicoes j\u00e1\u201d \u201cEntre outras coisas, propomos: suspens\u00e3o imediata do pagamento da d\u00edvida externa; dinheiro para sal\u00e1rios decentes; alimentos, medicamentos, sa\u00fade e educa\u00e7\u00e3o; investimento na recupera\u00e7\u00e3o dos campos para produzir alimentos; resgate das empresas b\u00e1sicas; nacionaliza\u00e7\u00e3o de todo o petr\u00f3leo; fim das empresas mistas; respeito \u00e0s plenas liberdades democr\u00e1ticas com elei\u00e7\u00f5es livres e liberdade aos presos por lutar; investiga\u00e7\u00e3o de todos os atos de viol\u00eancia e assassinatos; rep\u00fadio aos ataques aos sindicatos, partidos e organiza\u00e7\u00f5es sociais e populares; fim da interven\u00e7\u00e3o estatal nos sindicatos; e elei\u00e7\u00f5es j\u00e1! Por uma greve geral e um \u2018venezuela\u00e7o\u2019 para derrubar Maduro e mudar o pa\u00eds. <\/em>Fora Maduro e seu governo de fome e mis\u00e9ria!\u201d (6).<\/em><\/p>\n

The LIT \/ PSTU, contrary to the MAIS, says that it is necessary to fight against Maduro, but, citing the declaration of their section in Venezuela, shows that the way out (of the crisis– ed.) is inside the bourgeois democratic regime and “elections already” (slogan–ed.) “Among other things, we propose: immediate suspension of the payment of external debt; money for decent wages; food, medicine, health and education; investment in the recovery of fields to produce food; rescue of basic enterprises; nationalization of all oil; end of mixed enterprises; respect for full democratic freedoms with free elections and freedom for prisoners to struggle; investigation of all acts of violence and murders; repudiation of attacks on trade unions, parties and social and popular organizations; State intervention in trade unions; and elections already! By a general strike and a ‘venezuela\u00e7o’ to overthrow Maduro and change the country. It was Maduro and his government of hunger and misery! ” (6).<\/p>\n

A teoria de pa\u00eds semi-coloniais \u201cindependente\u201d do imperialismo \u00e9 mais uma das teorias revisionistas e antimarxista dos centristas como a LIT\/PSTU e dos oportunistas como o MAIS.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

The “independent” semi-colonial country theory of imperialism is yet another of the revisionist and anti-Marxist theories of centrists such as the LIT \/ PSTU and opportunists such as MAIS.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

Vivemos hoje a maior crise do capitalismo que abala fortemente a hegemonia America e acirra a disputa interimperialista entre os blocos dos EUA\/UE e China\/R\u00fassia. Dissemos que China e R\u00fassia s\u00e3o imperialistas, afirmando as teorias do Imperialismo, de Lenin e a Revolu\u00e7\u00e3o Permanente, de Trotsky. Na \u00e9poca imperialista o mundo j\u00e1 est\u00e1 dividido entre os pa\u00edses imperialistas. N\u00e3o existe burguesia \u201cprogressiva\u201d, capaz de obter independ\u00eancia do capitalismo. A burguesia n\u00e3o \u00e9 capaz de desenvolver as forcas produtivas e a fase imperialista \u00e9 a de decad\u00eancia do capitalismo, de crises, guerras e revolu\u00e7\u00f5es. China e R\u00fassia eram estados oper\u00e1rios deformado\/degenerado e conseguiram independ\u00eancia do imperialismo atrav\u00e9s da revolu\u00e7\u00e3o socialista e expropria\u00e7\u00e3o da burguesia. A restaura\u00e7\u00e3o capitalista n\u00e3o foi capaz de reverter os ganhos adquiridos pela revolu\u00e7\u00e3o e esses pa\u00edses retornam a esfera capitalista como pa\u00edses imperialistas emergentes.(7)<\/em><\/p>\n

We are living today the biggest crisis of capitalism that strongly shakes the American hegemony and intensifies the inter-imperialist dispute between the US \/ EU and China \/ Russia blocs. We have said that China and Russia are imperialists, affirming Lenin and Trotsky’s theories of Imperialism and Permanent Revolution. In the imperialist era the world is already divided among the imperialist countries. There is no “progressive” bourgeoisie capable of obtaining independence from capitalism. The bourgeoisie is not capable of developing productive forces and the imperialist phase is that of capitalism, of crises, wars and revolutions. China and Russia were deformed \/ degenerate workers states and achieved independence from imperialism through socialist revolution and expropriation of the bourgeoisie. Capitalist restoration has not been able to reverse all the gains made by the revolution, and these countries return to the capitalist sphere as emerging imperialist countries.<\/p>\n

As burguesias nacionalistas \u00e1rabes da d\u00e9cada de 80, assim como o governo burgu\u00eas chavista, n\u00e3o tem nada de progressivo. Esses pa\u00edses sempre foram semi-colonias e continuam sendo. Devemos defender as semi-colonias das agress\u00f5es imperialistas, mas nunca dar apoio a setores burgueses. Devemos apoiar as demandas democr\u00e1ticas como reivindica\u00e7\u00f5es transit\u00f3rias para a Revolu\u00e7\u00e3o Permanente. Na \u00e9poca imperialista, a burguesia n\u00e3o \u00e9 mais capaz de completar a revolu\u00e7\u00e3o burguesa, que s\u00f3 pode ser completada como parte da revolu\u00e7\u00e3o permanente.<\/em><\/p>\n

The Arab nationalist bourgeoisies of the 1980s, like the bourgeois Chavez government, have nothing progressive to offer. These countries have always been semi-colonies and continue to be. We must defend the semi-colonies from imperialist aggressions, but never give support to bourgeois sectors. We must support democratic demands as transitional demands for the Permanent Revolution. In the imperialist era, the bourgeoisie is no longer able to complete the bourgeois revolution, which can only be completed as part of the permanent revolution.<\/p>\n

O regime chavista est\u00e1 sofrendo press\u00f5es do imperialismo americano e seus aliados imperialistas China e R\u00fassia n\u00e3o hesitar\u00e3o em apoiar o regime e toda a sua repress\u00e3o. Se vier a ruptura do exercito e tentativa de golpe, n\u00e3o podemos apoiar uma \u201cguerra de procura\u00e7\u00e3o\u201d entre as potencias imperialistas na Venezuela. <\/em>(8)<\/em><\/p>\n

The Chavista regime is under pressure from US imperialism and its imperialist allies. \u00a0China and Russia will not hesitate to support the regime and all its repression. If there is a break in the army and an attempted coup, we can not support a “proxy war” between the imperialist powers in Venezuela. (8)<\/p>\n

N\u00e3o h\u00e1 sa\u00edda para a classe trabalhadora e do povo pobre, que sofre com a profunda crise econ\u00f4mica, por dentro do capitalismo e o regime democr\u00e1tico burgu\u00eas. A sa\u00edda para a classe trabalhadora que sofre com a fome, desemprego e morre por falta de medicamentos \u00e9 se organizar de forma independente, com comit\u00eas e a greve Geral para a tomada do poder, a expropria\u00e7\u00e3o da burguesia e um verdadeiro governo dos trabalhadores. N\u00e3o \u00e9 sa\u00edda para os trabalhadores venezuelanos e latino americanos alian\u00e7as com o imperialismo, seja o EUA ou China\/R\u00fassia. O castro-chavismo \u00e9 a grande barreira para a independ\u00eancia da classe trabalhadora e luta contra a burguesia e o imperialismo na America Latina (AL).<\/em><\/p>\n

There is no way out for the working class and the poor people, who suffer from the deep economic crisis, within capitalism and the bourgeois democratic regime. The way out for the working class, which suffers from hunger, unemployment and is now dying for lack of medicines, is to organize itself independently, with committees and the General strike for the seizure of power, the expropriation of the bourgeoisie and a real workers’ government. There is no way out for Venezuelan workers in Latin American alliances with imperialism, be it the US or China \/ Russia. Castro-Chavism is the great barrier to the independence of the working class and struggle against the bourgeoisie and imperialism in Latin America (LA).<\/p>\n
