Full support of the struggle of the indigenous peoples of Tapajós against Lula’s privatization decree of the three rivers!

The following is translated from our Brazilian comrades of the Grupo de Trabalhadores Revolucionários do Brasil (GTR-BR)

Full support of the struggle of the indigenous peoples of Tapajós against Lula’s privatization decree of the three rivers!

The indigenous movement in defense of the Tapajós River is an example of struggle and resistance of the working class workers and oppressed peoples. The movement has been occupying the Cargill company for over a month in protest against the Lula government which issued a decree to privatize the Tapajós, Madeira, and Tocantins rivers which  are facing devastating dredging operations, impacting navigation and soybean harvest outflow carried out by the multinational company.

The indigenous movement in Brazil is the most independent movement from Lula’s government and of the PT and the Popular Front. The workers’ movement is tied to the government which has had success in keeping it under control in recent years.

Despite all the rhetoric from Lula and the PT, their governments, whether past or present, are governments of the bourgeoisie and servants of imperialism, be it the imperialism of the USA or of China.  For Lula, the financial market, agribusiness, and large corporations come first. Defending the environment reveals itself to be a great hypocrisy when it promotes oil exploration at the mouth of the Amazon River or the privatization of the areas as we see now. Just like defending national sovereignty in Latin America is a fallacy when Lula remains silent in the face of Trump’s invasion of Venezuela in order to preserve the interests of the bourgeoisie, corn fear of tariffs returning to Brazilian products. And now he’s even talking about visiting Trump and agreeing to Petrobras’ oil exploration in Venezuela, doing the dirty work for the USA!

We are in another presidential election year. The crisis of capitalism and the regime of the bourgeois democratic system continues to generate polarization between the left and the far right. Thus, as in the last elections, the deeper the capitalist and regime crisis becomes, the more the PT (Workers’ Party) and their reformist and bourgeois allies threaten the independent movement by nurturing the far right. This has been the main threat from the ruling party to maintain control of the struggles of workers and oppressed peoples. They want us to believe that our struggle helps the right wing and the fascist bourgeoisie.

As Lenin and Trotsky already showed us, fascism is the bourgeoisie’s last weapon against the working class.  The Popular Front not only does not fight fascism, but it also paves the way for it. It does so at this moment by hindering  the only force capable of defeating fascism, which is the force of the working class.  Lula, the PT (Workers’ Party), and the Popular Front are the main culprits in demobilizing, and disarming the working class from the fight against capitalism in decomposition and the rise of fascism. The Popular Front also affects the solidarity of the working class with the struggles of the indigenous. Building that solidarity is very important and would rise to class unity to another level. It would reach that level if there were active solidarity from the workers.

The indigenous struggle shows that workers and oppressed peoples should only believe in their own forces. They must organize themselves independently of the government and the bourgeoisie and to adopt their methods of direct struggle. This is the only way to defeat the bourgeoisie and the fascism.

Capitalism, in its terminal crisis, needs to attack the working class and the people harshly. oppressed. The crisis of bourgeois democratic regimes worldwide shows that the bourgeoisie can no longer govern without fascism. On the other hand, the crisis increases the inter-imperialist rivalry, as seen in the dispute between the imperialist blocs of the US and China for control of the world’s raw material sources. Climate change and destructive environmental problems, combined with the threat of a third world war, put at risk the very survival of humanity and accelerate the necessity for a world socialist revolution to end capitalism!

The struggle of indigenous peoples is a struggle for their own survival in the face of climate change, the advance of agribusiness, and the insatiable greed of the bourgeoisie. This is the path for the working class.  To advance the struggle, the workers need  to break with Lula, the PT and the Popular Front! Class independence is necessary to organize and put into action. Marching a direct fight, without traditional methods of struggle such as democratic assemblies, Pickets, occupations, and strikes. Faced with the rise of fascism, we need to organize the self-defense militia of workers!

Therefore, we advocate for a United Workers’ Front to counter the Popular Front with the bourgeoisie. We advocate that in this united front we fight for the common causes of working class and oppressed peoples, where democratically the programs of class organizations should be debated and put into practice. The class needs a revolutionary program and a worldwide party of socialist revolution to defeat capitalism.

For humanity to survive, capitalism must die! Long live socialism!
